Supporting women to learn German

Would you like to volunteer for women with a refugee or migration background? At the Malteser Integration Service, you can empower mothers and help them improve their language skills!

The Malteser Frauen.Sprach.Raum offers language and orientation support for women living in large-scale accommodation in Frankfurt. Topics relating to everyday life and motherhood in Germany are discussed in small groups. Together, they practise topic-specific vocabulary and everyday dialogues. In short: we create a safe language space especially for mothers. The exchange takes away the fear of speaking and offers participants the opportunity to network with each other.

For the Frauen.Sprach.Raum we are looking for women who would like to get involved on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10-11:30 a.m.

Support, give opportunities, understand Frankfurt - through language support at eye level.

Your Tasks

• Practicing conversations on everyday topics for women in DE
• Encourage participants to speak
• Brief preparation of practice sessions, i.e. choosing topics and selecting suitable exercises / games (large material archive available)
• Participation in monthly team meetings

What's needed

• You are a woman and have an understanding of issues specific to women and mothers
• Enjoy communicating with other people
• German language skills at native speaker level
• Want to get involved and actively help shape topics
• Patient and flexible in dealing with language barriers
• 3 hours per week over a period of at least 6 months (participation also possible every 2 weeks)
• No previous experience is required; ideally some experience in tutoring, language support / DaF / DaZ, or similar.

We help people who have left their home countries and need support in Frankfurt. We accompany people with a refugee or migration background individually, provide support, knowledge, courage, confidence and everything necessary for an independent and self-determined life in our society.
