Get involved with a historic railroad - refurbish real trains and ride as a train crew through the region

The Braunschweiger Verkehrsfreunde e.V. association aims to preserve historic rail vehicles and the "Lokpark" site on Schwartzkopffstraße behind Braunschweig's main station. The historic vehicles are used operationally throughout northern Germany for museum public and chartered trips.

The specific projects are:

• Maintenance/repair/renovation of real historic locomotives and cars
• Maintenance of the historic "Lokpark" site
• Trips with the historical vehicles in the whole North German area
• Organization of cultural events on the premises "Lokpark" such as concerts and visiting days

Your Tasks

• Craft work on the vehicles. Previous knowledge/training is not mandatory, with us you can learn a lot or use your existing knowledge for locksmithing, metal construction, engines, wood, paint, vehicles etc. in a large and well-equipped workshop.
• You can work as a conductor, bar staff, barbecue chef or customer service representative on the trips, concerts and visiting days.
• Support is also welcome in administration, accounting and social media as well as solicitation of sponsorships.

Desire to work as part of a team with history, technology, or culture

Time required

Meetings are held regularly on Saturdays during the day and on Monday evenings. For events and train rides, helpers are also needed at other times.

The Braunschweiger Verkehrsfreunde association has the goal of preserving historic rail vehicles and, if possible, using them operationally for its own trips. In addition to the craft work on the vehicles, there is, depending on interest, the option to get involved in the lively cultural program on our premises, the Lokpark Braunschweig.
