Objectives

On the basis of human and fundamental rights, we advocate unconditional respect for all sexual orientations, lifestyles and relationship models, gender identities and cultural imprints. Self-determination, appreciation and recognition of individual life paths and designs are central values that we stand for in our work. Transparency within the association and towards the public is equally important to us.
Compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation and the confidentiality of all personal information are a matter of course for us.

Love life! Sexuality as a resource.Dealing with people with sexually transmitted infections such as HIV is often characterized by irrational fears and prejudices that lead to stigmatization and discrimination. This is often due to incorrect or half-knowledge about infection routes and a repressive sexual morality that focuses on negative consequences. We see sexuality as a resource that should be valued and protected in its diversity and individuality. It is still important to reduce discrimination and stigmatization and to offer support, especially for people with HIV and their relatives.

Experts! For HIV, AIDS, hepatitis, STI2 and more.We care for people with HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) regardless of their cultural or religious background, origin, skin color, sexual orientation, age or gender identity. We also advocate the approach of accepting drug work. In our rural district, we see ourselves as a point of contact for all questions relating to sexuality. We advise, educate and support against the background of the resources and obstacles of our rural district.

Prevention! With people at the center. Our approach focuses on target group-specific and sex education HIV/STI prevention, particularly in schools and youth and care facilities throughout the district, knowledge transfer and sexual education, intensive public relations work, advice, support and outreach social work.
As part of "youthwork nrw", we offer HIV/STI prevention in the sense of emancipatory sex education and holistic health promotion. We work from a systemic, resource-oriented and culturally sensitive perspective that focuses on the person as an individual.

Empowerment! Strengthening for self-help.By pursuing a participatory approach through self-help and empowerment, we strengthen the individual and their position in society. We believe that different perspectives and diversity in discussion stimulate democratic and transparent debate. Appreciation and recognition of other lifestyles without moral judgment is important to us and we offer groups a (safe) space for their meetings in our office.

Quality! On site and beyond.
We ensure continuous professional development through further training and supervision for all staff and volunteers. Members, volunteers and the board work closely together. We regularly exchange information with other AIDS service organizations, the state and federal association, the Paritätische, the independent welfare sector and the local healthcare system. Close cooperation and active participation in committees and professional associations ensure that our commitment is always based on the current state of professional discussion and creates synergies. We offer our volunteers qualified training and continuous support as well as a competent approach by trained specialists.

Not alone! Shared perspectives for the future. Thanks to effective HIV prevention work, the number of new HIV infections in Germany has remained at a relatively low level compared to other countries for several years. Nevertheless, the demands on target group-specific HIV and STI prevention and on psychosocial care and counseling have increased significantly due to constant medical and socio-political changes. Successful prevention and support for those seeking it should be adapted to the challenges and opportunities of the time. In over 30 years, our association has learned that this requires above all commitment and patience, but also sufficient financial resources.

With our team of full-time and voluntary staff, we will continue to stand up for the people who turn to us and contribute to social and health policy developments in line with our mission statement. Against this background, we will maintain and build on our proximity to politics, business and the healthcare sector.
